{ Livermore Wedding Photography } Meredith + Ethan

This is my second time returning to the Martinelli Event Center in Livermore. The first time here for a wedding was when I assisted Lauren Cohn-Frankel, and this time, I was assisting Gerald Carvalho. I also had the pleasure of working with Rosaura Sandoval, who was the second shooter for the day. We made a great team and had a blast shooting Meredith and Ethan’s wedding, in perfect mid-summer weather.

Meredith and Ethan were fun, upbeat, and in love! Their wedding was meticulously designed and was full of wonderful details. Best of all, they had given us plenty of time to photograph EVERYTHING!

Here’re some of my pictures from the wedding, shot for Gerald Carvalho Photography.

{ Palo Alto Wedding Photography } Merissa + Daniel

Over this past weekend, I was humbled to be the photographer for Merissa and Daniel’s wedding. The day started bright and early at Merissa’s Hillsborough home. The ceremony was held at the Palo Alto First United Methodist Church and the reception followed at Dynasty Chinese Seafood Restaurant in San Jose.

This is my first time doing a same-day-edit (SDE) slideshow, giving guests at the reception a taste of what went on during the day. See the full slideshow here! The time to do a slideshow was a tight squeeze, but I managed, with help from my lovely assistant, Cary!

Here’re a couple of sneak peek images from the ceremony. The church is gorgeous!

If you haven’t seen their engagement photos, check them out!

Inspired … by Mike Larson

Last week, I took a time out from work and attended a 2-day intensive workshop with Mike Larson, covering all aspects of running a wedding photography business, from shooting and post processing to managing client relationships and building a successful photography studio. Throughout the two days, he echoed a lot of things discussed in Dane Sander’s book Fast Track Photographer. If you haven’t read the book, go pick up a copy at your local bookstore!

Here’re some highlights from the session:

  • Photography is rapidly becoming a commodity with the rise of digital SLR cameras, so to differentiate yourself in a market flooded with photographers, leverage your most valuable asset and what’s most unique about your business, you!
  • Unlike photographs, an experience is something you provide that others cannot copy or imitate – it’s about doing something different, and not repeating what’s commonly done by other photographers.
  • Build trust through showing genuine interest in your clients. Show interest in them more than your camera settings. Develop a personal relationship with your clients and be more than just a photographer – be their friend.
  • Be a leader and delegate. You can’t do everything all the time! Develop a workflow that’s simple and scalable. The #1 reason why photographers fail is because of a “slow workflow.”
  • Do what you do best. Do it with excellence!

There were so many more good points, just too many to list here. This has made me reflect on prior engagement session, realizing all the things that I could have done better! My goal in the next year is to not only grow a photographer and refine my personal style, but to start providing a unique, tailored experience to all my clients.

Below are some of the images shot on day one of the workshop:

{ Engagement Photography } Merissa + Daniel

I was super excited when Merissa and Daniel asked me to photograph their wedding a few months ago. Merissa was an ex-colleague of mine back in the day at Electronic Arts working on The Godfather. She was a joy to work with and naturally, we became good friends. There’s something about Merissa and Daniel when they’re together, something indescribable, but it just feels “right!” Amidst planning for their big day, we finally found some time to do an engagement session. Here it is …

{ Napa Wedding Photography } Jennifer + Christopher

Jen and Chris’ wedding was one of my first major wedding this year, held in beautiful Napa, California. I shot this wedding for Gerald of Gerald Carvalho Photography, and also worked alongside a colleague of mine from eBay, Liem Nguyen.

Although it was back in May, the weather was already scorching hot! The venue was gorgeous, the Meritage Resort and Spa, and the ceremony itself was held in a cave-like wine cellar at the resort! How cool was that? While it was challenging to work in a dark cave, the atmosphere was truly amazing. Jen and Chris was extremely fun to work with, and they were surrounded by some of the most loving family and friends!

There were a lot of pictures, so it was extremely hard to narrow down to just a few highlights. But I tried.:)
